College is an option — not a destiny.

College is expensive, overrated for many, and not the guaranteed path to success we pretend it is. The data are clear: students leave with heavy debt, many graduates never work in their field, and the average student isn’t getting elite-level training. College can be fun — but fun comes with a price tag. A degree helps some people thrive, but plenty build great careers, strong skills, and fulfilling lives without one. Success has more than one doorway. College is only one of them. It’s time to stop selling one path as the only path. College is an option — not a destiny. *** Learn More: Many students leave college with substantial debt. https://educationdata.org/average-student-loan-debt Many graduates do not find work related to their college diploma. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/college-grads-jobs-underemployed/ On average, undergraduates have average intelligence. https://www.scienceopen.com/hosted-document?doi=10.14293/S2199-1006.1.SOR.2024.0002.v1 Post Author Geoffrey W. Public Education- Conservative & Progressive Views

Socialism is evident in American Education. Recently, socialist policies have come under attack. I got a good education at the public High School in Millville, NJ. Millions of Americans attend public schools between Kindergarten and Grade 12. And many of us go on to state universities for additional studies. All of these schools are funded by taxpayers. K-12 are free except for the cost of personal supplies. State universities get funds from taxpayers, student tuition, grants, and investments. In addition to public schools, wealthy people who send their children to private schools also get socialist tax-breaks. Nonprofit institutions do not may taxes, which places a burden on workers and businesses to cover all the things our taxes pay for. I think it is a good thing for all members of a democratic society to have a basic education. I might disagree on the components of a basic education and how many years a person should get at tax-payer expense, but I believe public ed...

WILL COLLEGES BECOME PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE RICH AGAIN?

The news about a college closing got my attention. I had a friend who attended the soon-to-be-closed MacMurray ( CNBC ). The cost of a college degree has consumed more and more of the limited budgets available to all but wealthy Americans. In recent years, student loans were cheap and easy to come by. And the payback of loans seemed so far away as undergraduates embarked on four years of fun— often not affordable by their parents or grandparents who attended local colleges or none at all. Of course, there always were serious students who needed a college degree to enter their chosen career. We'll still need higher education as along as advanced knowledge and skills are necessary to success in one career or another. INFLATED ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The idea of career entry requirements has been inflated as though those making the rules for licenses and certifications were connected to higher education and stood to profit from them. Take my profession of psycholog...
